On January 25, the traditional Robbie Burns Night will again be raising funds for the Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation. The event, now in its 17th year, will be held at the Hymus Resto-Pub at 177 Hymus Blvd in Pointe Claire.
Robbie Burns Night serves a dual purpose in the community. It supports a worthwhile charitable cause and commemorates the birth of Scotland’s immortal poet. Both
objectives help to make it one of the more noteworthy celebrations of the year.
It’s a Scottish night, replete with music, haggis, poetry, highland dancing, the pipes, additional entertainment and raffle prizes. Following the ceremonial piping-in, toasting and sampling of the haggis, guests may gorge themselves on Scottish meat pies, sausage rolls, roasted hip of beef, other home-cooked dishes and a resplendent variety of buffet foods.
All this, it should be mentioned, while quantities last. The festivities start at 6 p.m. and tickets are $20.
Live Celtic music gets the party into full swing, following the ceremonial address to the haggis. Salty Dog will play the party tunes. Jordan Anderson, Pipe Major of the Montreal Pipes and Drums will also perform together with traditional Highland dancers.
It’s a great evening for a good cause and is open to anyone willing to share in the spirit of Burns Night. Indeed, anyone interested in becoming a sponsor, through the donation of funds, or prizes, is equally welcome. If you can’t toast the bard in person, ‘tak a cup o’ kindness’ for the children.
