Losing under Bush
Losing under Bush
I've just read letter to the editor regarding the outgoing American president (The Chronicle, Jan. 28).

I stared at it and re-read it several times hoping that I'd missed the part where Mr. Heron lets on that he's kidding. No. He's not. I worked in Portland, Or. during the Clinton years while the entire country was humming with work and opportunity from coast to coast. Since Bush took over, region after region stagnated in the shadow of self-serving policies and lack of thought. The false prejudice that the conservative right is somehow better at managing fiscal responsibilities than the liberal left has been proven wrong time after time. My fellow union pipefitters with whom I worked thrived under Clinton and now are losing, bit by painful bit, their jobs, homes, and families because of the greed of the Bush/Cheney regime.

Katrina was another in a long line of dropped balls for this administration. The thought of a government turning its back on their own for as long as they did is absurd.

Finally, the part of the letter asking God's blessing for this "man."

Bush is responsible for the deaths of 5,000 young soldiers because he is a war monger who never actually had the backbone to face battle himself. There isn't much more pathetic than a draft-dodger, war-monger except, perhaps, those who would worship them. As a father of three boys aged 15-19, I feel for every parent of a fallen soldier and wonder what God would bless a president who would initiate a conflict whose soul purpose is greed (Iraq).
