A 10-year-old girl was hit during a drive-by paintball shooting at a Kirkland school last week, according to Montreal police at Station 1.
The incident occurred when a four-door grey car drove by École Émile-Nelligan on Charlevoix Street and someone fired a paintball gun at the school at about 4:15 p.m. on Feb. 17, said Const. J.P. Levis., adding it was after-school hours when only supervised day-care kids were around. A 10-year-old girl in the schoolyard was hit in the shoulder but was not injured. “But she was distraught,” Levis added.
With the help of a witness who took down the plate number of the car, police tracked down four young adult suspects. The investigation is ongoing and charges have not been laid yet, Levis said. He said the paintball shooting appears to be a random act.
School principal Danielle Delorme said educators have spoken to the students about the incident and about how to react in such situations. But there was “no big panic” at the school over the incident, she added.
