‘Galileo’ moment

People check out the ‘Discover the Sky’ event hosted by the Montreal Planetarium and the Dorval Astronomy Club last Friday. The aim was to increase public awareness of astronomy and invite people to admire the sky through a telescope, as Galileo did 400 years ago. The International Astronomical Union (IAU), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and professional and amateur astronomy associations around the world have declared 2009 the International Year of Astronomy ( www.astronomy2009.ca).
