Royals capture Lions Division Crown
The Atom CC West Island Royals closed out a remarkable regular season with a narrow 2-1 victory against the Deux Rives Dauphins on Saturday. The win improved their record to 18-1-5 and secured them the top seed in the competitive Lions division heading into the playoffs.
The Royals led 2-0 after the first period on the strength of goals by Cameron Winter and Joshua McCarthy. An early second period marker by Sean Langis brought Deux Rives within one, but that was all they would get by Royals goaltender Cedric LeSieur.
LeSieur was excellent, as he has been all season, ceding just a single goal in the win. He led the league in goals against average on the season, allowing just 24 on his way to posting a sparkling 1.00 GAA.
The Royals hope to continue their success in the playoffs, which will begin next week at the Beaconsfield and Kirkland arenas.
