Lac St. Louis regional recap
The Lac St. Louis regional finals were hosted by Lakeshore this year. Fans were treated to exciting games all day Saturday and Sunday at Kirkland Arena. Here’s a recap of some of the action.
Peewee BB Panthers prevail
The Lakeshore Panthers defeated the Trois-Lacs Phoenix 7-1 to claim the Peewee BB championship and maintain their undefeated record in regional play this season.
Francis Chouchani tallied 2 goals and an assist and Kevin Aquino scored twice to lead the Panthers attack. Michael Mancini and Christopher Theodore each chipped in with a goal and an assist.
The Panthers will be looking to make some noise at the Dodge Cup provincial tournament to be played in St. Laurent.
Peewee AA Panthers fall to Trois-Lacs
Unable to replicate what their BB brethren accomplished in the preceding game, the Peewee AA Panthers saw their regional championship hopes squashed, losing 4-1 to the Trois-Lacs Aigles.
A late goal by Theodore Krallis broke their opponents’ shutout bid, but in the end it was too little too late for the Nick Orlando coached squad.
Brandon Kosic was the Panthers’ most consistent player, performed admirably in a variety of roles, including on the power play and the penalty kill. Defensemen Vincent Roy and Beau Mills also played well in the losing cause.
Bantam AA Royals seeing Stars after OT loss
The Bantam AA Royals had the league championship stolen out from under their noses, dropping a 1-0 decision in overtime to the Beauval Stars.
The Royals dominated the game, but couldn’t find the back of the net despite their many chances. The best opportunity may have come midway through the second period when Mathieu Savoie’s hard wrist shot beat the goalie, but rang loudly off the cross bar.
West Island came out flying in the extra frame, hemming the Stars deep in their end for the first two minutes, but a near miss resulted in a Stars counter attack and a perfectly placed slap shot by captain Julien Leduc ended the game.
