Calling all teachers
Raise your students’ awareness of energy savings
As part of its ENERGY WISE Home Diagnostic program, Hydro-Québec is now launching the school component of its campaign, urging Côte Saint-Luc, Town of Mount Royal, Hampstead and Montréal West’s elementary schools to “go with the flow” and make young people more aware of responsible energy consumption. This component, aimed at Grade 5 and 6 students, consists of having them fill out the Junior Diagnostic Quiz and getting them involved in the issue of their energy consumption habits at home.

“Young people are a big part of the community and are especially aware of the environment,” says Claude Rocray, Acting Head of Community Relations with Hydro-Québec’s Direction régionale – Réseau de distribution – Montréal. She adds: “They can become true ambassadors for our cause. By making them more aware of their own energy consumption, Hydro-Québec is seeking not only to help educate future responsible citizens but also to encourage their families to reduce energy consumption by filling out their ENERGY WISE Home Diagnostic questionnaire.”

By providing teachers with relevant material and fun accessories, Hydro-Québec is taking an entertaining approach to teaching young people to consume energy more economically through simple acts. Ways of more efficiently using electric appliances, lights, heating and hot water are also discussed to teach how to avoid waste. The online Junior Diagnostic Quiz game is a fun way to encourage exchanges about energy efficiency. In addition, classes that have completed this activity can enter a contest, with a chance of winning a laptop computer. Teachers in the third cycle in this city’s elementary schools received the material in late March. They can receive further information by calling 1 877 904-3317.

The ENERGY WISE Home Diagnostic program is a free service that helps eligible residential customers learn more about such subjects as the breakdown of their energy consumption by activity (heating, cooking, washing, lighting, etc.). After a customer fills out a questionnaire, Hydro-Québec issues a personalized recommendation report suggesting practical ways to help reduce consumption without compromising comfort.
