Lyric Theatre Singers STRIKE UP THE BAND!

The Lyric Theatre Singers known to Montreal audiences as the foremost interpreters of Broadway, jazz and pop choral music, return to the Oscar Peterson Concert Hall, 7141 Sherbrooke St. W., to present four performances of the musical theatre revue STRIKE UP THE BAND! Musical director Bob Bachelor has prepared an exciting show paying tribute to composer George Gershwin who was not only a creator of the golden age of American musical theatre but also a successful composer of music for the concert hall. During his short life, he penned a number of America's most recognizable pieces of music, in fact, during the 1920s and 1930s he wrote one brilliant musical after another. I Got Rhythm – Summertime – ‘S Wonderful – They Can’t Take That Away From Me – Fascinating Rhythm – The Man I Love – Swanee – Embraceable You - are only a few of the selections audiences will be treated to this coming June!

For many audience members, Lyric Theatre Singers’ concerts are an opportunity to rediscover Broadway’s best from a wide range of traditional and contemporary composers. This year is no exception, as excerpts from these hit shows will be highlighted: The Lion King – Annie Get your Gun – Sunset Boulevard – The Drowsy Chaperone – Spring Awakening – Young Frankenstein – Gypsy – Company – A Chorus Line - Curtains and Ragtime.

The Lyric Theatre Singers’ unique and dynamic concert style, which has won them many accolades from judges and fans alike, combines excellent choral work with creative staging that captures the drama of the music. The creative team for STRIKE UP THE BAND! includes: Bob Bachelor, Musical direction and Musical staging - Assistant musical director, Jean-François Trudel - Lighting designer, Mark Bye – Costume coordinator, Karen Pearce and Guest Choreographer, Mary Sarli. Backing up the Singers will be musicians Linda LaRoche, piano - Eric Lagacé, bass – Claude Lavergne, drums and Dave Clark on saxophone and clarinet.
