First-timers raise $48,000 for Cedar's Cancer Institute
Nearly $50,000 was raised Saturday evening for the Cedars’ Cancer Institute at the FIRST Annual Maritime Lobster Fest, at the Royal St. Laurent Yacht Cub in Dorval.

The Yacht Club was transformed into a Maritime village with colourful lanterns, checker table clothes, fishing nets, lobster traps and sea shells. Fiddle music filled the air during cocktails and there was dancing after dinner to Preville, a 9 piece live band. Fresh lobster (brought in from New Brunswick that very morning) was paraded out to 140 guests, all wearing a keep sake Lobster fest Aprons featuring our mascot, Lenny the lobster.

East coast hospitality filled the room as Maritime secrets were told, like how to tell the difference between a male and female lobster! Unique door prizes were handed out including a huge 7 pound (male) lobster and a one of a kind Bird house from Mr. Robbins, a folk artist from New Brunswick. Guests competed for dozens of other prizes such as a trip to Chicago, 2 hour flight on a piper arrow, five $500 shopping sprees at Ivanhoe Cambridge Malls and a day cruise on a Beneteau 423.

Steve Hajaly, President of the Cedars and Dr. Henry Shabita, Cedar’s Medical Chair spoke briefly about the critical funding and services the Cedars Institute provides to cancer patients through the McGill University Health Centre.

Co-chairs Marc Arnautovitch and Sandra Robbins are thrilled with the results, as their idea started out as a back yard BBQ with a bunch of neighbours in Beaconsfield. The idea grew into this Lobster Fest due to the enthusiasm of their neighbours. Committee members include; Chair Marc Arnautovitch, Investment Advisor, RBC Dominion Securities and his wife Co-Chair Sandra Robbins; Paul Nimigon Vice President Rail Travel MMM group and his wife Jane Nimigon, Interior Designer (picture 141); David Smith VP Human Resources Ivanhoe Cambridge and his wife Joanne Smith; Frederic Aird, (President Aird Sports Design); Nicole Boudreau; Tina Marier and Sue Beatty.
