Left of Centre Theatre Company returns for its 3rd season
The children’s theatre company will feature "The Three Musketeers"
Following the success of their two previous childrens’ shows, ‘Dick Whittington’ and ‘Puss in Boots’ both being pantomimes, Left of Centre Theatre Company is very happy to present ‘The Three Musketeers’ by James Barry and directed by Simone Nichol.
Although a children’s theatre company, adults and children alike enjoy the larger than life whacky characters, the slapstick moments, the gags and most importantly- like in all traditional pantomimes -the opportunity for audience participation. Children particularly love helping the ‘good guys’ overcome any obstacles from the ‘bad buys’ by calling out and offering ‘help’. This is really good old fashioned family entertainment.
Pantomime is traditionally a Christmas and mid-winter entertainment for children and adults. It emerged from the Commedia dell Arte and is known for its sketchy plots based loosely on traditional fairy tales. For nearly two centuries, the stories of Aladdin, Jack & The Beanstalk, Dick Whittington, Cinderella, Mother Goose, Robinson Crusoe and Red Riding Hood have provided the very young throughout much of the English-speaking world with a first, enduring experience of live theatre.
Left of Centre Theatre Company has had the pleasure to perform for three seasons with Centaur Theatre Children’s Series and already there are members of the audiences –both children and adults who have returned, in enthuiastic anticipation to see the next production.
Each new production can only be accomplished by dedicated professional actors because the acting style is exaggerated, extremely physical and non-realistic. It gives the effect of watching cartoon characters and this is exceptionally demanding for the actor. In this production of the Three Musketeers the actors are playing multiple roles.
The plot of the story involves one of the three musketeers -Porthos, Athos or Aranis who is assigned to protect the Queen`s most precious jewel, The Star of France. But the villanous Cardinal Richelieu, who wants the Star for himself, is plotting the downfall of the Queen. With his not so competent servant Brie, who is the Cardinal’s sidekick and with his ally, the ambitious and scheming Milady, Richelieu hatches a plan to snatch the jewel from our three heroes. But how successful are the trio for evil against the trio for good?
