Youth water-polo players go national

Three members of the Dollard des Ormeaux Water-Polo Club, including Dollard resident Alex Cox-Twardowski, Pierrefonds resident Mark Yammine and Dollard resident Pat Ahmarani have been selected by Water-Polo Canada to be part of the 2006 Canadian men’s youth team’s 15-man roster.
Meanwhile, Pierrefonds resident Dan Tripoli, also a Dollard club member, has made the cut as an alternate. On the coaching side, Pierrefonds resident Scott Smith, a head coach at Dollard, will work as an assistant under British Columbia’s Ian Mitchell. The first stop for Smith and the foursome will be Calgary, where they will participate in the Pan Pacific International Tournament, a four-day event beginning Dec. 27 involving Australia, New Zealand, the United States and Great Britain.

“This tourney will give these athletes international water-polo experience, said Mitchell. “It will also be a great opportunity to play in front of their home country.
