Driver busted
A 21-year-old Kirkland man had his probationary driver’s license suspended for drinking and driving and was accused of marijuana possession last week. On Jan. 2 at 4 a.m., police pulled over the suspect’s car near the corner of St. Charles Boulevard and Ste. Marie Road in Kirkland, Const. Chantal Morneau of Montreal police Station 1 said. Officers smelled alcohol in the vehicle and gave the driver a breathalyzer. The man’s blood alcohol was not above the legal limit, however, probationary license holders cannot consume any alcohol before driving, she said. Police also discovered marijuana in the car. The man’s vehicle was towed and he earned four demerit points (probationary licenses only have four points). Morneau said he lost his permit for 30 days because of the charge and if he’s found guilty, he will lose his license for three months once he pays a fine of $430.

Armed robbery

A gun-wielding man held up the Loto-Québec kiosk at the Dorval Gardens Shopping Centre last Friday evening, according to police.

At 8:20 p.m., the suspect, an English-speaking white male, about 30 to 35 years old, approached the Loto-Québec employee, pointed the gun and said ‘This is a hold up,’ Const. Liliane Bellucci of Montreal police Station 5 said. The cashier handed over money from the till and the man left on foot. However, a witness who saw the robbery tailed the suspect, who headed south from the shopping centre, Bellucci said. The robber noticed he was being followed, turned around and pointed the gun at the witness. His pursuer backed off and he got away, she said. The suspect is about 5-foot-11, weighs 170 pounds and was dressed all in black. He wore a leather jacket, hat, scarf (covering half his face) and sunglasses.

Armed assault

Police arrested a 27-year-old Beaconsfield man for discharging a firearm and armed assault early Saturday in Pointe Claire.

At 3:50 a.m., officers were called to the Lafleurs Restaurant on Sources Boulevard (near Hymus Boulevard) after reports that shots were fired in the parking lot, Const. Liliane Bellucci of Montreal police Station 5 said. Witnesses saw five people in the lot when the gun went off, but three fled the scene before police arrived. The other two men entered the restaurant. Investigators found bullet casings and a charger from a 9-millimetre gun as well as baseball bat in the parking lot. Both men refused to co-operate with police, but the Beaconsfield man was arrested based on statements by witnesses. The second man, a 28-year-old from Pointe Claire, was treated for a “major cut under his right eye, Bellucci said. He has not been charged.

Suspect sought

Police are looking for a man suspected in three armed robberies at convenience stores in Kirkland since Dec. 27. In each hold-up, he entered the stores with a black handgun already drawn and demanded cash, Const. Chantal Morneau of police Station 1 said. Witnesses said the suspect wore a grey hooded sweatshirt, jeans and a black ski mask. The white English-speaking robber is described as about 18 years old, stands 5-foot-8 and weighs 140 pounds, she said. In the latest hold-up on Jan. 3, the suspect robbed the Boni-Soir on du Barry Street at 8:35 p.m. He fled on foot along St. Charles Boulevard and was accompanied by three other individuals once he left the store. On Dec. 27 at 10:05 p.m., he is suspected in a similar robbery at a Boni-Soir on St. Charles and another hold-up three days later at a Couche-Tard near the intersection of Ste. Marie Road and Montrose Drive at 9:50 p.m.
