Reid makes it back up

The Vancouver Canucks called up the former member of the midget AAA Lac St. Louis Lions last Friday from the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League. Reid was in the lineup and played a regular shift during the Canucks’ 3-2 victory over the Atlanta Thrashers Saturday night at General Motors Place in Vancouver. He failed to register a point.

Reid, a two-time performer in the world junior hockey tournament for Canada, played for the Hamburg Freezers in the German Elite League two years ago and for Rapperswil-Jona of the Swiss Elite League last year before rejoining the Moose this season, where he had 12 goals and 14 assists before being summoned by the parent club.



Dauphins, Royals struggle

in Quebec

The Quebec International Peewee Hockey Tournament has often been called one of the most difficult amateur hockey events in the world, and the Deux Rives Dauphins and West Island Royals recently discovered why.

Head coach Derek Culkin’s AA Deux Rives Dauphins suffered elimination from the 11-day event on the weekend, dropping a 5-2 decision to the Detroit Belle Tire last Friday night at the Pepsi Colisée before losing 3-2 to the Suroit Express Saturday afternoon at the Arpidrome.

Before the tournament began, Culkin said he knew there would be a chance his troops would face the Express, and admitted being disappointed at the prospect.

Meanwhile, head coach Rod Matheson’s AA West Island Royals lost 7-1 to South Florida on Saturday night at the Colisée.

The Royals, ranked No. 2 in the province heading into the tournament, face elimination today when they take on a yet-to-be determined opponent at the Arpidrome.
