The Midget AAA North Shore Mustangs handed out their 2006 awards recently and the team's player of the year award went to a player who had never even played his position before last season.
Quarterback Victor Kozlowski, who filled in for injured starter and dragged the Mustangs on his back to the provincial finals, was named the winner of the Denney Ferdinand Memorial Award given annually to the Mustang of the Year. Offensive MVP honours went to wide receiver Jesse Blond and the defensive MVP was David 'Tank' Therien.
Defensive back Rio Miller was the winner of the team's Special Teams MVP, Karl Watson was named the team's Offensive Line MVP and while defensive tackle Travis Martin was named the Defensive Line MVP. Running back Shane McKenna was named the team's offensive rookie of the year, while safety Derek Zacard was named the squad's defensive rookie of the year. Running backs Paul Belair and Emmanuel Musangu-Kuniyma were named winners of the Mustangs' academics and athletics bursaries and the team's most-improved players were wide receiver Mathieu Ellis on offense and defensive lineman Sandeep Singh.
