An anonymous tip and some good police work resulted in an arrest of a group of young men in connection with a debit-card cloning operation in Dollard des Ormeaux last week.
Upon receiving a tip that a group of men were on their way to a convenience store in Dollard with the goal of convincing the clerk to allow them to clone debit cards and recover PIN numbers, Const. Frank Berniquez and Const. Maxime Bouchard were dispatched to the store, located at 4090 Sources Blvd. Between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m., the suspects arrived and the plainclothes officers noticed the suspect vehicle was full of people. That’s when the officers descended upon the suspects and made arrests. After searching the car, police found a sawed-off shotgun with two bullets in the chamber. The suspects will be charged with fraud and possession of an illegal weapon.

Burglar sought

A suspect with a penchant for knocking on people’s back doors to see if they are home before robbing them is being sought by police after another Dollard des Ormeaux break-in, a Station 4 spokesman said.

The suspect broke through the rear patio door into a home on Thornton Street sometime between 3 and 6:15 p.m. on Feb. 19 and stole electronic equipment, clothing, some cash and jewelry, Montreal police Station 4 Const. Chantal Castonguay said. The thief had initially targeted the victim’s neighbour around 3 p.m. by knocking on the neighbour’s rear patio door. When the neighbour answered the door, the suspect stammered that he had the wrong house. Castonguay said police have recovered fingerprints from the scene and are investigating the evidence.

Pickpocket incident at

grocery store

A thief snatched a wallet from a woman’s purse at Loblaw’s grocery store in Kirkland on Feb. 19.

The victim, a 52-year-old Kirkland resident, paid for her groceries with her debit card and left the store at around 4:30 p.m., Station 1 Const. Roberto Del Papa said.

She later noticed her wallet was missing and discovered the thief withdrew money from her bank account, he said. Police believe the suspect watched as the victim entered her PIN before swiping her wallet.
