Dollard woman faces DVD counterfeiting charges: RCMP
BY ALBERT KRAMBERGER

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police raided a Dollard des Ormeaux home recently as part of a movie counterfeiting/distribution bust.

The RCMP seized over 700 counterfeit DVDs on March 2. The investigation is ongoing, but a 45-year-old Dollard woman faces charges under section 42 of the Copyright Act, which allows for fines up to $1 million or up to five years in prison. The RCMP case will be presented to the Crown, which will formally lay charges.

It could take another month or two before any charges are filed, said Cpl. Luc Bessette, adding police will not release the the woman’s identity until charges are officially laid.

The RCMP said the suspect mainly used the Internet to distribute the counterfeit DVDs.

Anyone who wants to report this type of fraud can call the RCMP at 514-939-8307.
