Ringette players head east

The news was not so good for the Montreal Mission, who met the Edmonton WAM in the NRL title match. The Mission, a powerhouse during the regular season whose roster featured four West Islanders, including forwards Kim Poirier and Catherine Cartier along with defencemen Karen Stewart and Dominique Deveau, lost 5-3.

Meanwhile, the Quebec cadet team, whose roster featured Notre dame de l’Île Perrot resident Cortney Keeble, defeated Ontario 6-3 to bring him gold. Keeble, part of the Quebec team that won bronze at the recently completed Canada Games in Whitehorse, was named defensive player of the game. For her efforts during the tournament, Cartier, a Pierrefonds resident, was named a first-team all-star in the open division. She was also presented with the RingJet 500 scoring title award, after notching 48 goals and 48 assists during the regular season.

The selection process to name the 2007 karate team that will be heading to Vancouver this summer to represent Quebec at the national championships is over, and one West Islander has made the grade.

Dollard des Ormeaux resident Anthony Bhagwandin will compete at the tournament, which takes place Aug. 12-14. ⬫
