In light of all the recent drowning, parents need to teach their children not just how to swim but to teach them pool rules and water safety. We are fortunate in the West Island to have wonderful outdoor community pools where children can learn all of this starting at a very young age. I have been involved with Fairview Pool in DDO for 30 years as a volunteer. My children spent  their summers at the pool and became lifeguards at other outdoor community pools where they taught all that they had learned from their younger days at Fairview.

This Friday morning between 1030 and noon we are  having "the Kelly Anne Drummond Lifesaving Competition" in memory of our former lifeguard . Our lifeguards will be demonstrating Lifesaving techniques followed by some Lifesaving competition games for the children

Fences around pools should be a must but learning to swim and how to be safe around a pool, lake etc. is a necessityand parents owe it to their children to make it happen.
